Liwoli 2009 is a three day long Hacklab and an open invitation to everyone who would like to participate in an active process of learning, producing and sharing ideas around the areas of Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) and DIY practices in digital art and culture. FLOSS developers, software artists such as the collective GOTO10, activists from HAIP (Hack Act Interact Progress) and many others form the basis for the event and will share their knowledge in the form of workshops, presentations, installations and performances.

So what is open about open source hardware? Many embraced Open Source for political reasons, and do the same now with open source hardware. But isn’t that too simple? It is time to shed some light onto the dark side of Open Source hardware.

will be running in the main exhibition of the 2008 edition of the piksel festival in Bergen. The latest node from the Metabiosis project will be shown next to other great works such as Cyclic evolution of a discourse (by Voldemars Johansons, Daniil Umanski, Federico Sangati), Expanded Eye
(by Anaisa Franco), and exist.pl from Pall Thayer, that we had the chance to show a week ago during make art.

‘Liberating Your Film: Editing with Free Software’ is a two day workshop which will introduce participants to pure:dyne, an essential tool created to provide a complete, custom and ready-made computer environment for media artists. These workshops will be run to coincide with the Brighton Film Festival, Cinecity, and are aimed at filmmakers and media artists wanting to make an active move away from Final Cut/Avid towards free software.

teacher: Andy Farnell (GB) assisted by Stéphane Léveillé (FR), dates: 25th-26th-27th November 2008 – 9h-12h30 / 14h-17h30, venue: Maison de l’Architecture. Poitiers, France

This 3-days workshop taught by Andy Farnell and assisted by Stéphane Léveillé is focused on sound design and Pure Data software. It aims to familiarize with the basics of sound, audio synthesis and effects using Pd. While learning how to build their own sounds and musical tools, the participants will end up playing all together over the local network.
